Ascension Living Via Christi Village, There No Place Like Home

When we were looking at a place to move into. We looked at so many and took it into account if it felt like home. Plus overall the quality of the place and community. When we visited Ascension Living Via Christi village it was no doubt it was home. We are now enjoying independence living and know as we grow older we have a place in assistant living , long care then memory care. One shop stop. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Always willing to answer any questions that we may have. We enjoy going over to the grill eating area for a good hamburgers & fries. When we don't want to cook. They always make sure there are plenty of activities to do each month. The value of cost I would have to say is the best value in town. There's no place like home and we found it here.

Overall would recommend.

I'm in independent living, so I'm not in the main facility under the auspices of assisted living or end of life. However, I will say I have every reason to believe that the quality of care given to those residents in assisted living as well as end of life are very well taken care of. I go over occasionally for events in that facility and the residents that I see in wheelchairs or walking around are clean. They do not smell, nor does the facility and the staff is very attentive to all of them. My one complaint is that they don't have enough maintenance staff to provide as quick a response to nonemergency type repairs or work orders as quickly as we would like. But that's an upper echelon decision for Ascension. I do want to add one other thing that the two maintenance people that they have on staff here at Ascension Via [name removed] are phenomenal and do their absolute utmost to support. But literally, they are overwhelmed.

Positive experience.

For me we chose Ascension Living mostly proximity, so convenience. One negative is the lack of cooking options in the rooms--but that can be a positive as well. Over all I would say it is a good choice for families looking at assisted living. The staff are in general very nice and helpful even when the residents sometimes get a bit grouchy. They've been more stable as regards price increases as well.

Review for Ascension Living Via Christi Village - McLean

The community is very welcoming, helpful and understanding. I'm glad my Dad has the staff at via Christi McLean, it may be a bit run down compared to other facilities, but I will take this staff over aesthetics.

Horrible experience post surgery

I was confined to bed, but had to learn to get myself to bathroom or I would pee myself. I was in pain for 2 hours because the nurse stated she went to lunch and ran an errand. The occupational therapist did not read my records resulting in her accusing me of either lying about asthma or lying about military service. I am a burn pit victim with my asthma and breast cancer directly related. I left as soon as my ramp was built because I'd rather be home aline than have their services any longer eventhough I was authorized an additional 2 weeks. I'd had ankle surgery with a plate and 13 screws. Not ONE of my nurses checked my bandages and refused to help me adjust my boot. I could have had a problem with my incision and nobody would know until weekly doctor visit. I finally took it off myself so they could assist putting it back on. The entire experience was beyond ridiculous.

Amazing Staff and Well Furnished Community

The staff was amazing! The community was very clean and well furnished. They could use some improvement on food and menu. The menu didn't sound appetizing and it is somewhat limited. They are able to accommodate some dietary restrictions.

Would recommend this community

The care services at Via Christi are very good, and it is a very nice place. They five out newsletters to keep everyone up to date on what is going on. During special holidays they bring the residents little goody bags. We would definitely recommend this community.

The facility was very nice, clean and looked in great shape. The halls were wide and the facility has two elevators one being large for wheelchair or people using walkers. A bistro area was available for those wanting alternative meal choices and the dining room was nice with windows. The biggest plus was a chapel on the second floor where they have services and rosary. The nursing home section was also a step up from the other facilities

Some extra costs....

My sister and I were trying to find a good place for our mom to live when we found Via Christi. It seemed like a good fit almost right away. We had opportunities to look at other places but most of them were too expensive and some of them I didn’t get a good feeling for from the people I talked to on the phone. So when we found this place, it felt right. The staff seems to treat the residents well; they seem to communicate well and are knowledgeable about what they’re doing. Mom doesn’t like the food much, but I think that’s more of a personal preference than anything else. The facility itself seems to be a very clean place. One thing that bothers me, though, is that you sometimes have to pay extra for some services that seem to be included in the price at other places. For example, we will have to pay extra to have maintenance hang some of my mom’s pictures on the wall. There are plenty of activities for the residents to do and they’ve got a pretty good community room that they have a lot of them in, like bingo and local entertainers. They’ll take the residents out on field trip to the grocery store, shopping, and even to the casino, but I think you have to have a little more independence to be able to do that. Overall, I would recommend them to others.
