Do Not Place Your Loved one Here

Many of the aides were inattentive, lazy and often found chatting with one another ignoring residents pleas for help. I often found residents literally falling out of wheel chairs, wearing dirty clothing, had missing hearing aides, dentures, jewellery or clothing. Complaints were often met nonchalantly. I watched horrified as residents had food stuffed down their Mouths by aides who watched tv or chatted to other aides. There was supposed to be calm music played during meals. Seldom did I ever see that. I found pills on the floor that obviously had not been taken. Many times aides yelled at residents instead of calmly helping them. I often found residents placed in their rooms facing the wall. Many looked unkempt , hair uncombed and teeth often unbrushed. Unless you were there to advocate, often residents were left in bed rather than taken to activities they wanted to participate in. Also, there was a companion there who ran her own private business utilizing Brentwood staff.

Please do not trust Brentwood Care Center with your loved ones

They will say all the right things when you are considering placing an elderly parent in their facility, but if you do it won't take long for you to discover their promises of first class care were all lies. Unless your loved one is very independent, and pretty much able to take care of themselves, you will be putting them at risk. The first couple of times my beloved parent had to be put in the hospital, I thought it was likely just part of the aging process, but then I noticed a pattern. They would be released from the hospital in good overall health and released back to Brentwood. About a week or two later, they were back in the hospital, Then I got lucky because he same nurse as the last time happened to be taking care of them in the hospital, and took me aside to share her concerns. The list included dehydration, symptoms that indicated lack of regular prescribed medication that were then confirmed by blood tests, 'diaper rash' from lack of cleaning, and bedsores that were not there when they had been released back to Brentwood just ten days earlier on that occasion. I voiced my concerns, and they were ignored. The cycle of lack of care by Brentwood continued until my parent died. I still feel guilt for leaving them them in the care of Brentwood, but once they are in a home it is very difficult to get them moved to another home , as it can take several months, or even longer. and sadly, time ran out. The Facility Administrator was [name removed], and he is still there. Intercare Corporate Group owns Brentwood, as well as some other "lack of care" homes. What they care about, is corporate profits. Please beware, do your research. If Brentwood had been a dog kennel, I would have immediately removed my dog and never taken them back there. But unfortunately, it is not that easy to change a 'care home' for a beloved parent. My advice would be to pay a little more and put them somewhere better. This is something where once you make a choice, you probably won't get a second chance, and this is something that is so very important it needs to be the right decision the first time.

not impressed.

1.My father was supposed to be transferred by 2 people. They used only 1 person who dropped him. He complained of pain for days . They gave him tylenol. We finally insisted on an x-ray. Of course he had a broken bone on side where he had been dropped. 2. Oral hygiene is neglected. They only brush the patient's teeth once a day. They don't have a dental hygienist on staff. 3. slow response to the call button.
