A safer alternative to home care

My 97 year old father with dementia recently moved to Joyful Senior Living (JSL) in Huntersville, NC. For three years he had been living in a large institution. The noise, the frequent intrusion of other residents coming into his room and the unavoidable high activity level of a unit with 30 people was wearing on my father. We chose to move Dad to JSL, a fully licensed privately run 5 bedroom home with a maximum of 6 residents. JSL is owned and operated by a couple who demonstrate that caring for vulnerable seniors is their mission in life. They hire and train nursing assistants to care for residents with respect and kindness. There is a caregiver there 24/7 to assist with ADLs, make sure residents come to the table for 3 meals a day and encourage them to participate in planned activities. The environment is clean, quiet, calm and private, all that we had hoped for.

Comments about Joyful Senior Living Huntersville, NC

The owners, [names removed] are absolutely the BEST in everything they do for the residents. They are treated as their family members. There will never be more than six residents, so the ratio for the staff to support is very 1. Meals and Snacks. Delicious, wide variety, healthy and plentiful. My wife always asked for seconds because everything is so good. 2. Rooms are well decorated, clean and a pleasant place to relax. 3. GREAT communicators to keep the family members informed on anything they may be concerned about. 4. Jessica does a meticulous job of ensuring the medications are given on time. 5. The CNA staff are chosen on their ability to be pleasant, caring and efficient care givers. 6. The on call doctor is an OUTSTANDING primary care physician. He makes house calls to JSL as needed and routinely sees the residents bi-monthly to see how they are doing. He evaluates their meds to optimize their effectiveness. He is a 30+ year internist.
