My Husband Needed More Care

The care was pretty good but my husband just needed care and when Vic was gone we didn't feel that Annie could lift him on her own. Then on weekends the caregivers were these skinny, small women and I thought, well they can't lift him. So that's one of the reasons we moved him. Foster homes aren't geared, i guess, for 24 hr nursing care which is what he really needed. They were very nice though.

Not Satisfied with Summerplace View 11

Our mother was at Summerplace View 11 at 10337 NE Oregon St. There were 3 live in care givers in the 1 1/2 years my 97 year old mother was there. The current one is not the Residential Care Manager so even though she lives there she was not allowed to discuss the residents with the families. I did not know she was not a "person in charge" until very recently so when I asked questions about my mother the answers were vague and I thought she was OK. Vic and Annie live in their other home so an in charge person did not live at this residence. I think that is against the license rules. Vic and Annie, the owners made it a point to be present when the visiting nurse or the home health people were there because they were technically the ones in charge. Recently my mother had 2 instances where we, the family, were not contacted about illnesses until after the fact. The first time my mother was ill with an infection over a 3 day holiday weekend, did not get medical care until the 4th day. Vic called the doctor on Friday but did not call me to give me the opportunity to decide the course of action when they suspected an illness. The 2nd instance, a couple of weeks later, I got the call that 911 had been called as they were loading her into the ambulance. My mother is now on Hospice Care at another wonderful facility. Also, there were no activities to keep people occupied. We brought some puzzles but they kept getting taken off the table before they were finished so we brought a card table for the group area. True, the place is beautiful, serene and very clean but sometimes looks can be deceiving.

not a good place for a pt that needs add'l nursing care

Vic and Annie come across as very congenial. but when family isn't there they are very harsh and yell at the pt's. as in the previous review the weekend help have no clue what they are doing. when we 1st toured this house, was told visiting hours are 8 am-8pm. Annie made a HUGE point of not wanting family members to visit at those hours since 'this is her house and she doesn't want people visiting' it makes the pt's depressed since family is being isolated and the pt's think their family is abandoning them. not the case. also she claims to make home made food, that may be sometimes but pt's are fed Totinos cardboard pizza and frozen dinners from time to time. and when a family members buys a certain food for their family member, Annie will feed the other pt's it so she doesn't have to make anything.. I would NEVER recommend this place. also Vic feels he can change the price when he feels like it, not following county regulations-- 30 day notice etc.

our father needed 24/7 care

this home is for the elderly that can do a lot on their own. our father needs 24/7 nursing care. like the other post, the weekenders actually didn't know what to do and couldn't lift him. Vic and Annie seem congenial, but when no family is there they are quite harsh. Annie limited visitation times because it is 'her house and she doesn't want people there all the time' . that actually is elder abuse and can be destructive to the pt's mind set. the pt's feel like they are abandoned when in reality family cant visit due to visit time constraints. when our parent moved there it was open door 8am to 8pm policy. Annie suddenly changed it to 1-5pm only -- made a couple of the pt's depressed and they felt rejected. our father is doing so much better in a full nursing facility and actually has color in his face and not as depressed as he was in this facility, also Vic keeps changing the monthly fee's without warning.
