The "staff" that works on the halls are not CNA's. They need to have more home cooked instead of processed foods and served hot. Daily, engaging activities. Not just bingo and crafts. The lack of consistent, quality cleaning of the rooms was ridiculous.

My mother has been at Terra Bella Memory Care for 6 weeks. She is always clean and well groomed. The staff is friendly, attentive and kind. Resident rooms are open to all, which can be disconcerting. Clothing and belongings disappear, however, it appears that everyone is safe it seems to promote a more interactive/social atmosphere. Although they have a calendar of activities, it appears that very few activities take place. In summary, Terra Bella may not provide everything advertised, but they do focus on the safety and care of the residents.

We really appreciated the care Dad received during his time at TerraBella. The environment is welcoming and well kept with a nice little outdoor area and a good amount of indoor space for wandering around. My sister and I lived several hours away, so we were only able to visit a couple of times per month. We were always really pleased with how well they knew Dad and cared for him, though he was often a very prickly resident and not always easy to manage. Food and activities didn’t always meet his needs, so that would be my only complaint specific to him. He only had the use of one of his arms, and meals were often difficult for him to navigate with one hand. Adaptive silverware and plates would have really helped him (which we learned after moving him to a nursing home.) Activities are tricky when someone isn’t interested or even refuses to participate, but we wished that there could have been more creative ways to help him continue to feel useful and engaged. As with many who have dementia, Dad’s needs shifted during his time at TB, and we appreciated the open communication we were able to have with the care staff as well as the admins. We knew he was safe there and well cared for, which gave us great piece of mind. After he moved into a nursing home, two members of the care staff kept in touch with us to check on him and even came to his funeral. That connection meant so much, especially because of how difficult he could be at times.

The only cleaning that was done in his room was when I did it every week. It was okay but in less than one year the entire staff was replaced-one by one. At times it was hours before they checked on him-under staffed. Meals were acceptable. Cost was acceptable if staffed properly.

From the staff, to the food, housekeeping, and healthcare, TerraBella has exceeded our expectations. I would recommend them till anyone seeing the same level of care.

We feel very good about our decision to place Dad there. We have found the staff to be very helpful and attentive to his needs. They show kindness and patience with all the residents. I'm not sure they do activities with him, but that may be because my mother is there visiting most days. He isn't always well kept - ear wax, strong body odors, feet need attention, etc. - so that would be my only complaint. I would recommend this facility to others.

It is a pretty place, but they do not provide the care needed for memory care residents, have staff shortages, and management that will flat out lie to you and tell you what you want to hear. All the good staff are moved out of memory care, leaving the staff with not so great of a work ethic working in memory care with the more vulnerable population. There are facts in their advertising that is false!

Cleanliness, they are always understaffed. I had to clean my fathers room weekly and take out trash. Care, he was not supported and his needs. They were understaffed is what I saw. Meals, added charges for tray service and no way to track additional costs, value, was okay but on low side due to lack of care at times. Staff, the first staff was amazing but as weeks went EVERYONE left or fired and constant change of personnel which led to lack of organization.

Don't be discouraged by the low reviews this place has improved exponentially! I visited several assisted living facilities and I would put Terra Bella right at the top. My mother especially enjoys the three meals a day with many choices and served restaurant style.

I would have preferred zero ratings, but that's not an option. Everything was horrible at this facility. After a significant medical problem, we moved our loved one to another facility. They also lost ALL OF HER CLOTHES and never offered to find, return, or pay for replacements. Yes, everything was labeled with my loved one's name. Many other personal items were also taken.

Stay away from Terrabella Newton. They do not take care of their patients They do not serve nutritious meals. They let you lay in bed terribly sick without contacting your family. When your family gets there, they have to call the ambulance themselves. It is one of the most horrible places I have ever been to. I was very frustrated, and it was just a horrible experience. My loved one is currently in a different place that absolutely takes care of him and feeds him properly. If you're able to take care of yourself, it's great. But if not, it's terrible. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

Please be wary of placing your loved one in this facility. I have seen excrement on multiple surfaces that is not cleaned for days, no organized activities, only one outside outing in a period of months. The existing management talk but do nothing. I believe my parent’s lack of care under TerraBella has caused her harm that cannot be undone. There were problems with ElmCroft, but everything is worse. Some of the patient care staff are excellent. I know they are doing their best. However, other staff members seem to lack training in how to care for residents w/ dementia. Staff used to stay at the facility longer, but the turnover rate is high. The facility may draw you in because it looks like a lovely place. Everything ugly has been swept under the rug. I do not want anyone to experience the pain of having their parent living in compromised circumstances. If there was a way to be more specific and not jeopardize my parent’s care further or the posting of this review, I would.

This facility could definitely do better. Management especially could do better. Overall, the day shift care staff did well. But I got nothing but lip service from management. They would listen to my concerns when I had them, but there was almost never any follow through or resolution. Housekeeping was lacking, my sister's room was poorly maintained. My other siblings and I would take turns cleaning her room for her. The food was not good quality. Communication with the family from care staff was good sometimes, depending on the staff member. I would definitely suggest improvement on cleanliness of rooms and resident hygiene, among other things that I've mentioned. We ended up moving my sister out of this facility. I would not recommend them to family and friends.

My daddy was in the mind care of Terra Bella in Newton, NC., for over seventeen months. My daddy loved it there and so did I ! They truly looked after my daddy. They became like family to him as well as our family. Very nice place with very caring staff! I truly appreciate the staff and the other patience there. My daddy has passed now, but I would recommend Terra Bella to everyone. I know other people in there and their families. They all love this place. I wouldn't concern any other place in Catawba County! I am very grateful to God for allowing my daddy to stay in there! I would do it over again. It is the best caring place. Thank you Terra Bella and staff!

My mom is very happy here and they take good care of her. I like the staff and I feel that they do a very good job with the residents. It is my mothers home and they keep it clean and organized and I have few issues so I am happy.

A Place for Mom has scored TerraBella Newton 6.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
