Great care, great owners

I could not be happier. There are just 5 residents. They know my dad and his needs, and notice even slight changes or needs. In bigger facilities, we were charged for help with shaving, or me asking them to rub lotion into his dry skin. Here, they do what is needed. No extra charge. Although they don't do regular "activities" they know that my dad was an avid fisherman. They are arranging a fishing trip for him where he can go to a local lake. They will push his wheelchair out onto a dock and let him fish! Wow! My dad turned 100 in December and the whole day at his facility was turned into a birthday celebration for him. Each meal was catered to his likes. They bought him a gift. At his old facility, they would've put up a couple of signs and brought him a balloon. I prefer the small residential facility over a larger facility by far! It turns out that there was a mixup when a place for Home made the appointment for me to go visit this location. So I showed up when they thought the visit had been canceled. I was welcomed in and shown around. So I saw the facility caught unawares. The owners are wonderful people. Their children sometimes interact with the clients. My dad is tickled to see the little ones running around. Even though it does not happen very often. Any small request that I have made they have come through. My dad mentioned to me once that he wished he could have apple juice with each meal. The very next day, apple juice began appearing with each meal. Those are the kind of small touches that I really appreciate. One last thing. If we run out of money to keep him there and Medicaid takes over, they will keep him.

Perfect solution!

My dad was in a larger facility in Oregon. Although there were more people there at that facility, that was part of the problem. No one saw him steadily enough to see some of the signs of things happening. In a residential care where he is now, At Unique family care he has the same caregivers 24 hours a day. They know him intimately. He knows them better than he knew anyone at the previous facility. I can see that he is getting better care. The perfect example is when he was helped in the bathroom, As he was on the toilet, the caregiver said I see that your legs are very dry. Would you like it if I rubbed some lotion in them? At the previous facility, they might have noticed his dry legs, but no one had the time to rub in lotion. I could not be any happier with where he is. The owner and her husband are very caring and good at communication. That part is better at this location, also. He was at what was considered a very good facility in OR.

A positive experience

Finding this care home has been the best thing for my mom. The owners could not be more kind or caring. For my mom, the added bonus of having children in the home has been such a blessing. [name removed] was so helpful to me in my search, and she hit it out of the park with this recommendation. I tell everyone involved with looking for care to contact your service. Thanks from my whole family!

How about A Home for Dad

I went over this with my sister, we would give them all 5 stars but maybe a 4 for activities, but that may have been a function of Covid and willingness of clients. [name removed] and [name removed] treated dad like family, and they did a great job communicating with us and making us feel welcome too. Staff was consistent, not much turn over, and they all took good care of him. We have and would recommend them!
