Review for Atria Aquidneck Place

This review is long overdue, but comes from the heart. In February, my mother spent a respite stay at Atria Aquidneck Place following a difficult accident. She had sustained multiple injuries - a broken and casted hand, fractured ribs, and a fractured pelvis - and was discharged from rehab sooner than expected. With her home more than an hour away from me in Portsmouth and concerns about her ability to cook, dress, or bathe safely on her own, I needed to find a safe, supportive place nearby - and Atria Aquidneck Place truly delivered. From the moment she arrived, she was embraced with warmth and care. [name removed] and [name removed] were incredibly welcoming - [name removed] even went above and beyond by personally furnishing and decorating a room for her, creating a space that felt like home. The entire team, from nursing and med techs to dining staff and front desk personnel, treated my mom with compassion, respect, and attentiveness. A special thanks goes to [name removed], the activities director, who helped her stay engaged with a wide array of fun and uplifting activities that brought her joy during her recovery. I can’t express enough gratitude to everyone at Atria for their kindness, professionalism, and the peace of mind they gave me during a stressful time. My mother still talks about how comfortable and cared for she felt - and when the time comes for her to make a permanent move, she has already said she wants to return to Atria Aquidneck Place. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Grateful for Atria

In my search for an appropriate assisted living facility, for my mother, I never felt like another potential "resident income". There was great compassion and awareness as to the potential needs of my 87 yr old mother. And there was honesty as to what I could expect, and what would not be available to us. They suggested that we do a "respit care" stay...a one month residency, inorder for my mom to witness, first hand, her appreciation and comfort within the community. I was also impressed with my personal tour, both [name removed], and [name removed] introduced me, by name, to staff and residents alike.

Overall, I would recommend the facility. I really take care of myself, but staff is very caring and overly friendly. Everyone knows your name, from cleaners to chefs. Move in was organized and simple. For the most part, no surprises. My only complaint is food. Portions are small, but you can always ask for more if hungry. I'm a very basic meat and potatoes eater and some of their fare is not to my liking. My bigger gripe is they tend to run out of basics i.e vanilla ice cream, rye bread etc not a big deal, but annoying. It appears that most of the tenants are happy. My biggest complaint is not enough parking near the building. Can be difficult if you use a walking aide or device. Management offers easy access and is open to suggestions and is responsive if help is asked for.

For me, it came down to having the availability of memory care for my wife, but once here, I was pleasantly happy with the overall experience here. I would and have recommended it to others.

A New Extended Family!

I can wholeheartedly give Atria Aquidneck Place a 5 on each category..... We were blown away by them!!! They truly deliver! What we recognized prior to Mom moving in was a sense of family. We were somewhat jaded at that point and wondered if it was just another dog and pony show. After moving her in and getting her settled, we now know that the Atria staff, from the Executive Director to the maintenance person, are all in. Meaning each and every staff member is part of Moms new extended family. A sense of joy is present.

My loved one is a lot more happy here. The one thing that she is struggling with is the food but we are working on this. They are wearing mask and they are making sure that all of the staff are staying safe. The people here are very friendly and they are taking great care of the community. This is a great place for my loved one from what I can see so far.

Nice Staff

I would highly recommend the community to others for their loved ones. I liked the layout and how clean the community was. The entire plan is a great idea. The seniors need a place where they can be and it doesn't include all of their meals. It would be nice to have the option for the residents to cook for themselves. My loved ones didn't care for the fact that they had to be paying for the meals they didn't eat.

A perfect place for our mom.

They're wonderful. To a person, they must carefully screen everybody. My mom says no one has been unfriendly. They've all been helpful. You can choose different care levels, and if my mom needs help, it's always offered. The food we tried was really good. They have pretty good food choices, and she's eating fish when she never used to eat fish. They have delicious desserts and a nice variety. And then if you don't like what's on the menu, you can choose to have a sandwich or a hamburger or something like that. They also offer a really nice variety of activities - movies, bingo, they bring in musicians, have crafts, mind exercise games, social things. They have a whole big calendar posted in a common area. They deliver on what they say they're going to deliver. It's a beautiful and bright setting. It's very positive and light. The people are wonderful, and the other residents are lovely as well. There don't seem to be cliques where people don't get along. In general, it's just a lovely setting. Even maintenance is very responsive and positive. Requests are taken care of by the next day. In terms of medication and safety, they're very aware of safety. And they're very accommodating. For instance, they'll take medications up to a person's room if they can't make it down to get their meds when they're usually dispensed. They'll call me to let me know if she's getting low on anything. The nurse is responsive and absolutely wonderful when out of the ordinary medical situations arise. She works really well together with the families.

5 STARS

If 6 stars were an option here I would have chosen that. The staff at Atria Aquidneck Place is absolutely spectacular - caring and warm. [name removed], the unbelievably capable Executive Director, has made great things happen over and over again, solving problems for our family, and continues to hire (and retain) a true all-star team at the Atria. [name removed], who might be the world’s best nurse, has helped our family through some serious medical challenges, going above and beyond with real compassion. I wish I could name each and every one of the great staff at Atria Aquidneck Place - from the warm hearted, beautiful soul housekeepers, to the med-techs, to the chefs and dining staff - the food is better than at most restaurants, honestly. If you have a loved one in need, do them a gigantic favor and stop in at the Atria Aquidneck Place

Are You Getting Your Money's Worth

I'm not happy. They raised the rent by 10% after only 6 months. There was no warning. There is no entertainment, activities, or van due to the pandemic. The community is stating the fee increase is due to COVID. I don't understand why the rent had to go up activities and entertainment from the budget.

Don't Not Choose This Place

I would say not to go. They nickle and dime you on everything. The Atria Aquidneck Place is consistently raising prices, and saying my loved ones need additional care. I am in the process of moving my loved ones out of the community. The community has a la carte and this is where the money comes into play. They didn't lower the price because the residents are locked in their room due to the pandemic. Nurses are making appointments for the residents and not information families.

Very thankful!

Everybody has been so helpful, friendly, kind and so fabulous. Our loved one felt right at home from day one. The outside of the community is beautiful, and when we were able to visit the inside was perfect. Everything was very well kept. We were able to eat one meal there when we moved our loved one in, and it was unbelievably delicious. For happy hour they come around with a cart that has snacks and wine. Our loved one just raves about the food, and he is very happy there.

Atria Aquidneck Place is really special. My mom has been living there about 6 months now. She is so happy. She really enjoys all the activities and talks about the food all the time. Everyone I have met when I have visited is so caring and friendly. So thankful we found this wonderful facility.

Father Loves It Here

My father is well here in this community. So far it has been good move for him, and his needs. He loves it here, and I'am satisfied with this community. They have a good staff, and I know he is in good hands. They do a good job with the cleanliness around the facility. There are good activities offered, and good meals provided. All is well for my father with his move to this community, and I would recommend it.

Atria is a new way of living but I'm liking it, and I'm more than pleased with the size of my accommodations. Another plus, for me, are the beautiful grounds with their walking paths.
