Best thing to happen to our family

Nothing bad that I've heard. My MIL LOVES the staff, the activities and outings. She occasionally complains about the food, but she has some mild dietary issues that she does not always voice. They do fun events frequently. She is constantly thanking us for finding her the right fit for her. She's made so many friends and her quality of life has truly changed for the better.

Friendly staff

SoCo Village is clean. The grounds are beautiful. They have people come in and play the piano and have other music. The staff is very friendly and helpful!

Best facility in Austin

The administrative staff is good and helpful. The director is Good to work with and on top of things - they are good. The workers are ok. You know how that goes. Most of the women do a good job. The men are not as good. This is the nicest facility I have found in Austin. They try to keep it clean and are on top of repairs and request. The maintenance director does an excellent job. The nursing staff is excellent as well!

Convenient and centrally located

They did not empty the trash often enough and the room was full of fruit flies. The food was pretty good. The staff was very good, always responsive. We did not have the opportunity to participate in the activities. I would recommend this community to other families! You just have to keep an eye on the trash. It was awesome to have a Walmart right there for anything we needed. And the location, right off 35 was great for family, no matter if they were coming from north or south. I probably should have rated cleanliness higher. The facility itself was beautiful, until you went into my brother in law's room and had to do battle with the bugs. It was awful. He had it very hot in the room, and he was wearing diapers, and he had bits of food they'd brought him either on his tray or in the trash. So maybe I'd suggest buying covered trash cans instead of open. Maybe that would help. I don't know. Because they didn't empty the trash often enough.

Grateful for this Community

I would give all 4s across the board. I know the least about activities, because my uncle tends to not participate. He is often bored (but much less so than when he lived alone!) Overall I am extremely relieved that he is there. I know he is safe. The staff is very patient with his antics. He really does seem to enjoy the food. The service they provide is definitely worth the cost in my opinion.

Highly recommend. Staff are friendly but like all other places, staff turn around was often. We picked them because it was the newest, smaller than others, and cost

Very Happy with SoCo Village

I first heard good feedback about SoCo Village from emergency first responders and people who work for the home health company that was caring for my parent in their home (non-biased opinions). When the time came that it was no longer safe for my parent to remain in their home, and this facility showed up as a recommendation from APFM, I did not hesitate to check it out. The staff at SoCo Village assisted me every step of the way to insure as smooth a transition as possible. On the day I was moving in and setting up the apartment, ALL of the staff was aware that they would have a new resident soon. When my parent was finally transferred to the facility, all of their care staff took the time to come by, introduce themselves, and get all of the information regarding the care that would be needed. The food is great. The care staff is awesome. The facility is clean, well maintained and nicely decorated. After 3 months, I have no regrets about the choice I made on behalf of my parent.

Review for SoCo Village

It took my sister many months to adjust to the change but for all of us who care for and about her we see so many positive changes in her health both physical and mental. The staff is wonderful.

We’ll run and quality facilities

Elderly married couple received quality treatment and support during an extended stay in Austin Texas. Staff exhibited professional and friendly service throughout our stay. Highly recommend this facility. My wife and I continue to reside there.

Beautiful setting, caring staff- would definitely recommend

The location was ideal for us. The decor and cleanliness of the facility was what I felt my mom would have selected. I feel that it would have been nice to have a checklist for move-in for memory care. i.e. A list of suggested and mandatory items on the checklist.

Not perfect, but overall we were satisfied with the care.

My brother in law was quite ill in the final stage of cancer when we moved him to SOCO Village. He was not mobile and required the highest level of care available. He was also a bit paranoid because of his illness and the medication he had to be on. So, he was not an easy resident. The staff at SOCO always responded to our calls and texts regarding his care, even in the middle of the night,, which was a comfort. We felt they really cared and tried their best for him. They have many activities for the residents which unfortunately my b-in-law wasn't able to participate. The food was pretty good. Really the only complaint I'd have was that the trash wasn't emptied often enough. Our minister visited him early on and commented on the smell in the room, which was embarrassing. And at the end, when all the family was visiting daily, the room was full of fruit flies. I would recommend SOCO Village to friends, but keep an eye on the trash situation.

Our Experience

My loved one was previously a resident at SoCo Village and the overall experience was okay. It is a newer facility, however, it is in a busy intersection part of the city and there were lots of homeless around so it didn't feel completely safe when my loved one ventured off from SoCo. There weren't many food/grocery/restaurant options nearby that felt completely safe. My biggest complaint was staff turnover, in all areas, which lead to shortages of all kinds.

Good choice for a loved one

We moved my mon out after 4 months because we decided it was better to keep her home with us. The facility was nice. The director back then was slow to respond, but I don't know if she's still there because it has been over 15 months since we moved my mom back home. [name removed] was a prominent staff member that was phenomenal! The food & housekeeping were wonderful, however it was expensive.

Bright cheery atmosphere

The staff is very thoughtful and caring. The main thing that stuck out about SoCo Village over others was the bright and cheery atmosphere. We have been very happy with their service and would recommend the facility to others looking.

We are so grateful we found SoCo. What a lovely and loving environment for our sister

We, our sister's family, have all been impressed with the care and kindness shown her by all the staff. We are there often and have enjoyed the special events which have included food and music. The facility is beautiful. The management staff couldn't be nicer to guests and residents.

Don't be fooled by its looks

Beautiful place. New everything. Tastefully decorated. They put on a good show for the tour. Weekly housekeeping ( except holidays, except they don't put clothes away, except they try to not remake the bed, except that they rush in and out and it's a half [removed] job). Activity calendar with tons of options except they don't mention that many are cancelled because activity director is chronically missing....or that a staff member just walks in, turns on a YouTube video and leaves. Lovely menu....except that they're always running late. Except that food is sometimes served cold. Except that food is often overcooked and difficult to chew. Oh and the last head chef just walked out with no notice. Yes they administer meds but med techs are always quitting and the agency people don't know the residents. Meds are frequently late or waaaay too early. Staff doesn't always reorder meds in a timely manner and sometimes residents go without life savings meds for days.

Tour experience

We toured with SoCo Village and none of the employees even acknowledged my dad or me. It was also very dirty. We did not see any residents in the common areas. Those were the main reasons we did not choose this facility.

More staff needed. Food still is better than anywhere else we saw. My mothers health has improved a ton since she has been there, but she is now self-managing meds because they could not seem to stay consistent in keeping them stocked and delivered at the proper times. But we experienced the same thing in Houston at what was supposed to be the #1 rated assisted living place in the Houston area. Centrally located if you live in Austin and want them nearby. Still very happy she is there and that we picked this one.
