Birches delivered what we were looking for.

The Birches has been a wonderful home for my mother. We were looking for excellent care, engaging activities, a connection to a Jewish community, good value, and a location close to family—and The Birches has delivered. The transition was a big one, but she’s genuinely happy, and I’m deeply grateful. The staff are caring, attentive, and responsive. Her apartment feels like home, and she participates in everything from games and art projects to live music and holiday celebrations. While the building is a bit older, it’s clean and well-maintained, and the dining areas are warm and bright. We’d love more menu variety, but the team actively seeks feedback and is working on improvements. Most importantly, we have peace of mind knowing she’s safe, supported, and thriving in a community that truly cares.

The Birches at Newtown provides options for personal care as well as memory care. You’ll find a warm, welcoming community with rustic touches reminiscent of a New England cottage. Cozy, shaded seating on the front porch offers a restful spot while the well-maintained courtyards and wide walking paths provide more opportunities to enjoy nature. Best of all, this community is pet friendly!

The surrounding area will give you a nice blend of a quiet, suburban life and all the amenities you could wish for. You’ll find several types of restaurants nearby, along with shopping. Newtown, Pennsylvania has a rich history you can explore, too. Visit The Court Inn, also known as the Half-Moon Inn, built in 1733. This restored space serves as the headquarters of the Newtown Historic Association, making it the perfect spot to begin studying the local history. For a fun afternoon, head to the Rose Bank Winery, which has a tasting room located in the historic Buckman Barn. Client Observations

Good: attractive physical plant; great location; some very good staff members. Improvements to lift rating: better direction of staff ; better training of employees ; less reliance on agency personnel in care giving roles.

Bright, sunny, clean friendly place for senior living

The facility and staff are wonderful. It smells clean, the people are wonderful, energy is good. Unfortunately the staff has high turnover and so very short staffed bc of the type of work (God's work). Any progress made with lunch or activities is usually set back due to staff shortages. The team that is there is wonderful. So trying to balance the staffing difficulties with the goodness of the facility itself which. Is top notch

Compassionate care

The staff at the Birches is compassionate and friendly towards my mom in the memory care unit. They meet mom 'Where she is" each day. If she doesn't won't to change into clothes, they encourage her but never force her to get dressed. It may take 3-4 time before she agrees.

Overall I would rate The Birches at 4 out of 5. I recommend you consider it for a loved one.

The Birches ratings would be higher if training and oversight of the care staff were improved. I would recommend this community to other families but but ask a lot of questions about quality of recruiting, training and oversight of care delivery staff. I go directly to staff with concerns and have found them responsive.

Great choice

New staff several in the past months, I'm not really familiar with them. Bad news [name removed] their director of memory care left last week. Big loss to them. We toured several different facilities, and I would highly recommend The Birches at Newtown.

Review for The Birches at Newtown

The facility is beautiful, staff is great with the exception of nighttime and evening staff. They are slow to respond when called if they respond at all. They are understaffed and no supervisor to contact when and aid is non responsive.

Memory care praises

[name removed] and her staff did a great job caring for my uncle in the memory care unit. He was there for only a few weeks before he passed. The facility was clean and the staff was pleasant. He ended up in hospice and the coordination of teams was good.

A Great Place For Mom

More attention could be given to vacuuming rooms and pt hallways. Other than that - good. The staff members are very friendly. The care is good but we had a little bump when several of the residents were diagnosed with COVID. Staff needed to attend to Covid positive patients, delaying care to others. Somewhat understandable. LPN could be more responsive. Dining is very good. Staff awesome. Go out of way to help. Food "bland" per mom but that could be her need for more seasoning. The activities are very good. Christmas show was fabulous - mom loved it. PT and OT are superb. [name removed] nurse practitioner is very thorough and accommodating - grateful for her.

Experience at The Birches

I would not recommend The Birches at Newtown for a family member that has a high level of care needs with regards to ADLs. My mother came in at level 4 and they were not staffed well enough to meet her needs timely. The food was good. The activities were okay. I didn't see any outings offsite, as advertised, in 2 months there. Housekeeping was fine. Not a good fit for Assisted Living with high level of mental faculties. My mom found it hard to connect with most of the other residents.

Birches Memory Care review

I am so thankful for this inspiring community of care givers. My mom received great care each physically and emotionally. The caregivers make her feel valued and loved. This is priceless!
